What happened to Elon Musk and Google?

Elon Musk and Google have had a complex relationship over the years.

In 2013, Google acquired Boston Dynamics, a company that designs and builds advanced robots. This led to rumors that Google and Musk's space exploration company, SpaceX, were planning to collaborate on robotics technology. However, these plans never materialized.

In 2015, Google's parent company, Alphabet, invested $1 billion in SpaceX to help fund its efforts to create a global satellite internet network. In the same year, Musk and Alphabet CEO Larry Page reportedly had a meeting to discuss potential partnerships in artificial intelligence, but no specific collaboration was announced.

In 2016, Tesla, the electric car company founded by Musk, hired several top engineers from Google's self-driving car project, now known as Waymo, to work on its own autonomous vehicle technology. This move was seen as a significant blow to Google's self-driving car efforts.

In 2018, Google's AI subsidiary, DeepMind, announced that it had created a system to predict the 3D shapes of proteins, a significant breakthrough in the field of biochemistry. Musk criticized DeepMind's announcement, arguing that his own company, OpenAI, had made similar breakthroughs in the field and had published its research openly.

Overall, while there have been some collaborations and investments between Musk's companies and Google/Alphabet, there have also been competitive tensions between them, particularly in the fields of robotics, autonomous vehicles, and artificial intelligence.
